My partner and I designed and fabricated a 15 ft wooden pyramid flanked by two 5 ft meditation pyramids to create a calm, comfortable space for festival attendees. We decorated the main structure with four 10'x7' surreal landscape panels, and a floating, glowing capstone. Each of the landscape panels depicted a unique natural environment - desert, beach, mountains, forest - made of layered wood, with mirror and plexiglass details to give depth and shadow to the scenes. We covered the interior in pastel, gradient-colored fabric, wooden eyes looking down from the ceiling, painted benches, foam mat flooring, and an original, ambient soundscape. The smaller pyramids also had foam flooring, and plexiglass pyramid lanterns. LED strips outlined the installation and helped light the landscape panels, with additional colorful uplighting to create a striking scene at night.
We installed an updated version of the pyramid with simplified LED lighting for the 2019 Desert Daze Festival.
